Oxygen generators
An oxygen generator is a unit that produces large quantities of oxygen during emergencies. Instead of using tanks with oxygen, that can’t be stored in all environments and use a lot of space, these units are used for the production of oxygen through chemical reaction at high temperature.
Oxygen is produced through degradation of sodium chlorate. This degradation requires substantial addition of energy from the oxidation of iron powder.
A brass igniter is used to initiate the reaction between this
energy source and sodium chlorate.
An oxygen generator for military use in submarines (Milspec MPOG)
weighs about 12 kg and can generate 2600 liters of oxygen during 60-90 minutes.
The range of oxygen generators is adapted to mines, submarines (MPOG) and also
as a smaller portable unit adapted to first aid for both military and civil purposes (ROG).
